The first event of the season 2011 has been a great success!
When we arrived at the TT Circuit at Saturday night the sky was clear as glass and the temperature against zero degrees…. COLD!
At first we had to fine tune the JDM Honda Integra Type-R DC5, so Tom went off with Martijn from Bekerom Tuning to get those pony’s working! Ian and myself built up our pitbox, prep the other cars and chat with some other people who arrived already. A hour or two later Tom came back with a really big smile and a fast DC5.
RACE DAY…. The first thing to do was getting the cars checked and approved by the race staff.
It took a half day, mainly because the staff did not get their planning about right… let’s keep it to that ;)
The DC5 and Niels Classens’ Civic Coupe are ready for racing! But first the Extreme and Super Pro Class was up for a Warm-Up Session, in that class runs the Verhagen Racing Honda S2000 Dutch Supercar Challenge race car. We actually met Michael earlier this week at the dyno where we offered him some help getting his car tuned. After some laps he came in with some problems with his engine, right away Rising Sun Performance and Bekerom Tuning stood there to help Michael out! Unfortunately we couldn’t solve it quick enough to get him out in the same session again. In the qualifying lap his supercharger belt came off, so sadly enough Michael couldn’t get out on the track again.
Niels’ Rising Sun Performance B18C engine worked really good in his Civic and he could make a nice Warm-Up session to get the feeling with his new setup. He came to a nice 2:12 lap time, not bad at all!
Tom never drove with his DC5 on a track before, even better.. he never drove on any track before! So we all didn’t know what to expect from his and the cars’ performance. His Warm-Up Session had a 2:18 best time.
The qualifying for Niels was his last session that he drove. He came in early because of a small electrical problem. He managed to put down a super nice lap time, 2:09.818. Unfortunately the time was not in the top 10, so he didn’t get a ticket for the final session. However, we are very pleased with his solid result!
The qualifying for Tom was great! 2:12! Six seconds faster! This meant that he directly deserved a ticket for the Finals! In that final session it even went better! His time, 2:10.085 was enough take the 2nd place! This time is even faster than I did in our K-series CRX… either Tom is really good, or I… uh.. I blame the car, lol!
We’re very satisfied with the results and progress made on this very nice and sunny weekend!
